Regional organizations vary in highly significant ways in relation to both the institutional form that they take and the provisions that they have for migration from outside the region and mobility within it. Even if the EU is viewed as a paradigmatic case of an intra-regional free movement, this Executive Training will show how why and with what effects other regions have also developed policies and legal frameworks to grant different sets of rights and obligations for intra and extra-regional migrants. These schemes are the result of complex constellations of power, interests and ideas at multiple levels reflecting the multidimensional complexities of transnational governance. Regional governance systems are shaped by and at the same time shape their environment while also playing a powerful role in defining the priorities on the global migration agenda.
