How should governments regulate the migration of workers, students, family members and asylum seekers? What rights and access to the labour market, welfare state and citizenship status should non-citizens be granted after admission? What can and should sending countries do to influence the dynamics and effects of international migration? Finding answers to these questions constitutes one of the core challenges of public policy in the 21st century. This seminar analyses and critically discusses research and policy perspectives on the regulation of international migration, including asylum and refugee protection. Using case-study methods, it critically examines competing policy objectives and trade-offs.
