With the occasion of the World Refugee Day, the CJC in collaboration with the MPC will hold a joint Webinar discussing some of the current challenges faced by refugees with academics and practitioners in an attempt to put forward policy solutions or innovative legal interpretation. In the face of the highest displacement figures on record, we are at a critical moment in the migration debate. The webinar gathers six scholars and a practitioner discussing their work on how to tackle variations in asylum adjudications in Europe, the implications of technological advances for international refugee and human rights law, and the digital vulnerability of third country nationals following the amendment of the EU databases legal framework.

The Webinar will include the following presentations:

  • ‘Asylum governance and politics in Europe’, by Leila-Hadj Abdou (Migration Policy Center, EUI)
  • ‘Inside Europe’s Asylum Appeals: Ethnographic Perspectives on Adjudication in Practice’, by Nick Gill and Tony Good (University of Exeter)
  • ‘The Big Data of International Migration: Opportunities and Challenges for States under International Human Rights Law’, by Ana Beduschi (University of Exeter)
  • ‘Digital vulnerability’: challenges and perspectives of EU databases for third-country nationals’, by Mariavittoria Catanzariti(CJC)
  • ‘Italian perspective on asylum adjudication’, by Luca Minniti (judge Tribunal of Florence)

Chair: Madalina Moraru (CJC and Law Faculty, Masaryk University, Brno)

Please note, a link to the Webinar will only be provided following registration.
