Rights, Protection and Inclusion

One of our six research themes

What rights do migrants have?

At the Migration Policy Centre, we investigate how migrants access their rights, the effectiveness of protection frameworks, and the pathways to social inclusion in host communities. Our research highlights the need for policies that safeguard the dignity, security, and integration of migrants. We aim to build a deeper understanding of the lived experiences of migrants, emphasising the importance of inclusive governance and equitable treatment in shaping long-term social cohesion.

  • Humanitarian Interventions and Migrants’ Agency: Traditional narratives often frame migrants as vulnerable dependents, but our research challenges this view by highlighting their resilience and expertise. Policies that emphasise agency can empower migrants while promoting sustainable protection practices.
  • Documenting Displacement and Integration: Personal testimonies of migrants provide valuable insights into the complexities of forced displacement, particularly in Gaza. Firsthand accounts shed light on the complex realities of forced transfer and internal displacement, revealing aspects that often go unnoticed in broader narratives.
  • Social Inclusion and Community Interaction: Integration outcomes are shaped by the everyday interactions between migrants and residents. Misconceptions and lack of engagement can undermine policies aimed at fostering social cohesion, making grassroots understanding crucial.
