Join this Migration Working Group that will examine how labour politics and border securitisation shape refugee experiences and public perceptions of migration.
The first paper will explore the role of trade unions in Türkiye in mediating Syrian refugees’ integration into the informal labour market and their limited inclusion in labour governance amid growing anti-refugee sentiment.
The second paper will analyse how state securitidation practices at the Polish-Belarusian border produce a securitisation of visibility, constructing migrants as threats through performative displays of power rather than direct encounters. Together, these studies will reveal how economic and security regimes govern mobility, visibility, and belonging in contemporary migration contexts.
The Migration Working Group (MWG) is a researcher-led research group, whose aim is to foster exchange on the latest, cutting-edge migration research and give the opportunity to early career scholars and PhD researchers to present their research.
