Giulio Di Blasi

Biography

Giulio Di Blasi is a global leader on migration policy, governance, and diplomacy, with deep experience in government, politics, and humanitarian operations in Europe and around the world. His work over the last 15 years has focused on the protection pathways available to displaced people, working to build migration and protection systems grounded on fairness and solidarity.

Giulio has extensive experience working in political offices. He was a Member of Cabinet to Commissioner Johannson at the European Commission, in charge of asylum, migration, and pathways to protection from April 2022 to April 2023. He has also been a Member of Cabinet to the High Representative / Vice-President for Foreign Affairs of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, responsible for migration and human rights issues from 2016 to 2019.

Between these two assignments, Giulio served as Director for Europe at the Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (GRSI) and Head of Operations at the Refugee Hub (now Pathways International).

Between 2011 and 2016 Giulio worked at the Directorate General of Internal Affairs for the European Commission in various capacities. He was Head of Team for the implementation of Hotspots in Italy and Greece, Head of Policy Coordination within the same Directorate-General, and covered several assignments in the field of asylum policy and law.

Before these posts, Giulio worked at humanitarian NGOs, focusing on the Middle East and East Africa with a specialization on refugees and human displacement.

At the European University Institute, Giulio coordinates the yearly executive training on migration management.
