Biography
Hirotaka Fujibayashi is a Max Weber Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the Migration Policy Centre of the European University Institute. He studies comparative politics and International Relations, with a substantive focus on the politics and political economy of international migration and refugees. His primary research interests are how and why states and/or sub-national actors behave the way they do in protecting refugees and other displaced people.
He earned a PhD in International Relations and Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, Switzerland. Prior to his PhD, he received an MA in International Studies and an LLB from the University of Tokyo. Previously, he served as a visiting researcher at the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies of the University of California San Diego, and the Institute of International and Civil Security of Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi.
