Empowering Youth and Young Refugees in Florence Through Participatory Research
Overview
U-LEAD is a participatory project that brings together unaccompanied minors, young-adult refugees and migrants, Italian high school students and researchers, students, fellows and staff members from the European University Institute to jointly plan and conduct research on topics relevant to community building, skills development and support for change.
Background
U-LEAD is a collaboration between the Robert Schuman Centre’s Migration Policy Centre and the UNICEF Office for Europe and Central Asia, developed through consultations with more than 50 stakeholders working in reception centres, NGOs and local government in Florence.
Objectives
- create a space where young people can meet, engage and develop mutual understanding through collaboration
- provide young people with tangible opportunities to develop academic and transversal skills and advocacy
- build young people’s confidence to protect and promote their rights and those of their communities.
